Badgers Wiped Out My Chickens

Updated: Sep 21

Could it be badgers attacking our dogs at night?

badgers

Yes, badgers are in Hopkins Park and yes, they will kill pets. They are found throughout the state, but higher numbers where there is sandy soil. – Anne, Illinois Fish and Wildlife.

Trapping season for badgers run from November 10 – February 15, 2 badgers per trapping season with a fur bearer’s license.

When it comes to dogs being attacked, it is more likely dogs attacking dogs.
If it’s a black bear that’s in the area, …if it’s a wild one, it is most likely foraging. So, it’s eating berries.
If it’s a domesticated, black bear, one that somebody kept as a pet, then it would be habituated to be near people and other animals and that would be a problem.
I saw a badger den in my back yard about 10 years ago. Claw marks all over my chicken coop fencing. Wiped out 40 of our chickens. – Johari Cole Kweli
